This weekend will wrap up the year for me with my last race of 2010.  It has certainly been a year with both the good and the bad.

The good was a new 5k and 10k PR

The good was surviving in Philly for 50 miles in July

The good was seeing my wife take 1st place in her age group in a local 5k!

The good was running a half marathon relay race with my Dad

The good was seeing my son tear it up in the Peachtree Jr this year

The good was running with an incredible bunch of guys in the Blue Ridge Relay (Let’s do that again All Chafed!)

The good was running with my brother in his first half marathon

The good was having a chance to complete another ultra and hopefully the 2nd this weekend

    There was plenty of good!

There was bad.  But when I put it in perspective I think because the bad came late it has been more on my mind recently.  Because of that I got to feeling the other day that the year was not as good as I thought it was.  Once I began to put things on paper I saw just how good the year was.

The bad was leaving my insides all over the course in Philly this summer!

The bad was fighting injuries this fall

The bad was not getting to take a shot at a Boston Qualifier this fall

The bad was not being able to enjoy fall training the way I normally can

I was watching a show the other day on the History Channel.  It was about the men who were on the Kennedy Detail in Dallas the day he was shot.  One of them was talking about the spiral he had been on after the shooting.  The doctor told him he had to make a choice, he said he was killing himself.  If you want to enjoy your kids and your family you have to stop the doctor told him.  He said that was an easy choice.  He never will forget what happened that day but he has moved on.  That is such a good lesson.  I can’t imagine the burden he has tried to carry all these years.  It is good to look back and remember the lessons learned but they need to be just that.  Let them be lessons learned and move on.

I have had my good and bad this year and from my bad they need to be lessons learned and let me move on and fix what can be fixed.  I hope I have one more good left in my for this weekend in Tallahassee.

Happy running and racing this weekend….
