So, for those of you who don’t know…the third Monday in April means one thing to runners—Boston. That is right, it is all about the Boston Marathon this weekend. It is Patriots’ Day and a very special day for many runners as well.
For those of you fortunate enough to be running Boston on Monday, best of luck and enjoy the race. I am excited about Boston every year and I hope one day soon to be as excited as about 25,000 runners are tomorrow. My excitement is more controlled this year because I have been reduced to being just a walker right this minute.
However, because of my last experience at the Disney Marathon this past January I have also spent time reflected about what getting that BQ is going to be like one day.
Last year with my relay team “All Chafed” we ran the Ragnar Reach the Beach Relay in New Hampshire. We had the opportunity to fly in and out of Boston and just spend a little bit of time there. It gave me a real excitement for what could be in my near future.
Reflecting on Disney this past year where I would attempt to make my Boston Qualifier it showed me just how fragile and tough it can be to get to Boston for some of us. You might be the one who qualifies every year. That is not me. It has been hard work along the way and a little bit of bad luck. I was reflecting with a friend on our podcast this past week about Disney and waking up to 70 degrees and 100% humidity. After 4 months of intense training it was a tough blow for us.
However, I do believe it will make getting that BQ even sweeter in the end. As I prepare in just 1 week to get back to running…here is looking at you Boston! I hope to see you soon!
